World Cancer Day

       "Create a future without cancer. The time to act is now."

February 4th is World Cancer Day. On this occasion, Tractivus would like to promote the importance of the field of cancer prevention, specifically bladder cancer (fourth most frequent cancer in USA, 2019 [1]). The prevention initiatives were taken by the Union for International Cancer Control to campaign and advocate for the targets of the World Cancer Declaration, penned in 2013. These measures are intended to make the risk factors for cancer visible, encouraging their eradication in the next 20 years.

Over half of the patients with bladder cancer had at least one identifiable risk: 10 % of patients had a neuropathic bladder, 28 % were smokers or ex-smokers, 14 % of patients had a history of catheter use and 20 % had a documented history of recurrent urinary tract infection [2]. Just with an urinary tract infections reduction a positive impact in the incidence of bladder cancer would be observed.

Tractivus has developed UroPHOB catheters, Foley-type urinary catheters with the ability to repel bacteria, preventing catheter colonization and urinary tract infections, and can be implanted for a longer period of time. The use of these catheters could work as a tool to reduce the impact of the use of urinary catheters in the development of bladder cancer.

We believe that through our actions, together we can reach the target of reducing the number of premature deaths from cancer by one third by 2030.
